Hugglescote homes evacuated after suspected explosive device was found during police raid: Man and woman arrrested

By Graham Hill 4th Nov 2021

Leicestershire Police officers discovered a suspected explosive device during a firearms raid on a Hugglescote property this evening (Wednesday).

The device was found at an address in Central Road, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) were called to attend.

A cordon was put in place at the property and Central Road was closed along with Breach Road nearby.

A number of surrounding properties were also evacuated as a precaution.

Police later reported that the EOD had since examined the item which is not deemed a viable explosive device.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said: "The road closures have been lifted and those evacuated are being allowed to return home.

"During the warrant, two people - a man and a woman - have been arrested on suspicion of firearm offences. They have now been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
