Snibston Heritage Trust staged a 'big clean up' at the Snibston Colliery Park yesterday (Monday) ahead of the first tours next month.

Leicestershire County Councillor Craig Smith spent the morning there and said: "I was down at Snibston Colliery Park with the Snibston Heritage Trust and other local volunteers.

"We were all doing the "big clean up", the old colliery buildings, ready for the first tours to begin towards the end of next month.

"Got a fascinating history lesson at the same time by the miners who actually worked there

"It was great to listen to their stories as we were scrubbing the place.

"I didn't realise it's actually a World Heritage site."
