Coalville: Footballers v cricketers New Year's match raised funds for LOROS charity

By Graham Hill 16th Feb 2022

A New Year's sporting event that dusted off the festive cobwebs for local athletes proved to be a fundraiser for a local charity too.

The annual football match between players from Broomleys Football Club and Broomleys Cricket Club witnessed athletes from both sports pit their wits in a friendly but competitive fashion raising £175 for local charity LOROS in the process.

With all sponsorship collected, this week Matthew Clarke, Chairman of both the Football and Cricket clubs proudly presented a cheque for the money raised at the charity's Coalville shop.

Matthew said "Our new year football match is quickly becoming a highlight of Broomleys' calendar.

"We raise funds for both new equipment for our sports teams as well as a deserving local cause, and we couldn't think of any cause more deserving this year the LOROS.

"Both Broomleys Football and Cricket clubs see ourselves as being part of the wider community.

"We want to be warm and approachable sporting clubs open to open to players of all abilities who share our values of inclusivity."
