The Friends of Coalville Park has welcomed the decision to reopen it to the public.

It had been closed during the Coronavirus crisis.

But this week, North West Leicestershire District Council's Chief Executive Bev Smith announced on social media: "We are opening Coalville park.

"It's the only one in the district that has been closed due to the issues of gathering.

"We rely on people's responsible actions and adherence to Government guidance on social distancing. Enjoy as part of your daily exercise!"

The Friends of Coalville Park is a community group working with the Council to care for and improve the park Friends of Coalville Park

It acts as a link between the community and the District Council.

And The Friends' reaction to the news was favourable - although there are similar concerns that social gathering guidance must be adhered to.

The Friends of Coalville Park secretary, Amy Shepherd, issued a statement which read: "I am sure local residents will be absolutely thrilled to hear that the park is reopening.

"Obviously we want to see the park remain open for the community so please use it responsibly and respect social distancing. Stay safe."
