A van owner was assaulted by four men during an attempted night-time robbery from his vehicle in Markfield.

The incident happened last Wednesday (December 6) and police have issued an appeal for witnesses.

At first it appeared that two men were trying to break into the van - but the owner was attacked by four males as he attempted to intervene.

Police now say that a white Golf may be linked to the incident.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "Officers are appealing for information regarding a robbery in Markfield.

"Police received a call at around 11.15pm on Wednesday, December 6, to report that two people were attempting to steal from a van parked in Marston Drive.

"The van owner approached the people and was assaulted by four males. He sustained an injury to the head.

"The suspects made off in a vehicle around 11.20pm."

PC 322 Lara Hardy-Smith is the investigating officer.

She said: "The victim required medical treatment but thankfully he was not seriously injured.

"From enquiries carried out, we believed a white Golf R car may be connected to the incident.

"We would like to appeal to anyone who may have any information regarding the incident, whether that is the people involved or the Golf.

"If you have any information which can assist our investigation, please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 23000751814 or online HERE.
