Families with children starting primary school for the first time in Leicestershire next autumn need to apply by January 15 - which includes the new forest school in Coalville.

Parents and carers can find out more and apply by clicking HERE.

New schools due to open in the next academic year include the primary school for Coalville, which is now available to add as a preference.

The new two-form entry primary school and plaza area includes playing fields, multi-use games area (MUGA), car parking and associated infrastructure at land off Beveridge Lane.

Work on the 420-place Coalville school started in October. It is described as a forest school, a Scandinavian style of teaching which puts education through play and activity at the heart of the curriculum.

It would be part of the 2,700 housing development in South East Coalville, which was given outline planning permission in 2016, and would be situated in Swinfen Vale.

Jane Moore, director of Children and Families at Leicestershire County Council, said: "The deadline for applications is approaching so if you haven't already, please do have a look at our website, consider your choices and apply.

"We know that starting school for the first time is a significant milestone, which is why we have included lots of information, including details of county schools, as well as hint and tips on the application process."

Families are encouraged to select three schools, including one in their catchment area, to have the best chance of securing a place.

The council says there is no automatic entry for any school.

Any applications made after the closing date of January 15 will be processed after those made on time.

But if you have already submitted your application, and now want to add Coalville Forest Primary School as a preference, you can amend it by using an admissions contact form HERE.

If you are not sure if you live in a school's catchment area, look at their website or contact them directly. The council adds this is often a key factor in getting a place.

For further advice on your preferred schools and information around open days, you should contact individual schools directly.

Allocated school places will be announced on national offer days – March 1, 2024 (secondary) and April 16, 2024 (primary).

Last year nearly 99 per cent of Leicestershire's children – a record number - secured a place at a preferred primary choice and around 97.5 per cent at a preferred secondary.
