A drug dealer who crashed his vehicle when speeding was arrested at the scene – with the assistance of off-duty Leicestershire Police officers in the area.

Agandy Anderson, 25, had tried to flee the scene following the incident in Copt Oak on October 17, 2019, but had been seen by two off-duty officers.

He was arrested in a nearby field by police who were called to the incident where he was also found to be in possession of class A drugs, a quantity of cash and mobile phones.

Yesterday (Thursday) at Worcester Crown Court, Anderson, of Chervil Rise, Wolverhampton, was jailed for a total of eight years after being found guilty of two counts of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.

He had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent.

He had also previously pleaded guilty at a separate court hearing to two further counts of possession of class A with intent to supply in relation to a separate incident.

Anderson has also been disqualified from driving for 12 months.

During the incident, two vehicles had been spotted driving at speed by an off-duty Leicestershire Police officer in Warren Hills Road, Coalville.

The officer was in another vehicle.

Around the same time, another off-duty Leicestershire officer was walking in the area of Whitwick Road, Copt Oak, when he heard a loud impact and saw a dark-coloured vehicle had crashed into some traffic lights.

The officer immediately called the emergency services.

As he approached the vehicle, he saw Anderson running from the vehicle.

The off-duty officer was assisting with traffic management when he then saw Anderson come back to the vehicle

The off-duty officer, who had been in Warren Hills Road, had also seen Anderson walking away from the collision and taken a photograph of him.

The officer tried to speak with Anderson but he walked away.

An on-duty officer arrived at the scene and was directed by one of the off-duty officers to a nearby field where Anderson was found crouching down.

Anderson was arrested and searched where a quantity of cash and two mobile phones were found in his pockets.

A small white plastic bag containing crack cocaine and heroin was also found in the area where Anderson had been detained as well as more cash.

It was also found the car did not belong to Anderson and that he had taken it without the owner's permission.

A drugs expert witness examined the evidence and was of the opinion that the drugs found in Anderson's possession was far in excess of that which a user would have and was destined for the onward supply to others for cash profit.

The two further charges of possession of class A with intent to supply relate to an incident in June 2020 when Anderson was stop checked in a vehicle in Kidderminster and was found to be in possession of heroin, cocaine, cash and mobile phones.

Detective Constable Chris Fox said: "Thanks to the intuition of off-duty officers who happened to be at the scene along with the quick work of officers called to the incident, Anderson was swiftly arrested where he was also found to be in possession of class A drugs.

"Dedicated investigative work then led to charges being made and this court result.

"Drugs cause harm to our communities and we will continue in our work to take action against those involved in drugs offences and to bring them to justice through the courts."
