Coalville litterbugs are facing a £150 fine if they throw rubbish out of their car or van windows.

North West Leicestershire District Council says it is clamping down on what it says is 'unacceptable' behaviour.

The council has posted a social media photo of one of its enforcement officers looking out for offenders - and says 11 motorists have already been handed penalties.

There are also warning signs on the area's roads explaining what will happen if you discard litter while driving - and telling you not to do it.

The Council says: "During a recent enforcement campaign, we've issued 11 fines to motorists littering from their vehicles.

"It's unacceptable behaviour, terrible for the environment and ruins everyone else's enjoyment of our district.

"Please take your litter home with you or face a fine of £150 – thank you."
