New details have been unveiled of a 50-home estate planned for Shepshed that was approved last year.
Charnwood Borough Council's plans committee backed the scheme, on fields to the south of the A512 Ashby Road Central, at a meeting in September 2022, with one councillor saying the location was ''a great little place to put a housing estate" and that wildlife would benefit from the additional green spaces.
Councillors voted overwhelmingly in favour, despite Shepshed Town Council saying the site was a "poor location for a housing development", and ward cllr Robin Popley saying it would cause "problems" for traffic.
The first application was made by developer GC No 37 Ltd, but now property company Places for People has submitted the latest plans for the scheme. They say the estate's green spaces and tree planting will "boost the National Forest character" of the site, "bringing woodland to suburban areas while also allowing a smooth transition between woodland and residents".
The documents also reveal there will be 12 two-bedroom homes, 22 three-beds and 16 four-bedroom properties.
The nearly two-and-a-half acre site is south of Shepshed, with main access to the scheme from the A512, which is a 40mph road.
There will be 120 parking spaces for residents, with two spaces for two- and three-bed homes and three spaces for four-beds. There will be four visitor parking spots.
According to the application, 20 of the dwellings will be 'affordable', with the other 30 being shared ownership. A "flowering grassland glade surrounding a planted [drainage] basin" is also promised, as well as numerous small green spaces and an area of "new forest habitat".
When planning permission was granted last year, Tamsin Cottle, from agent Planning & Design Group (UK) Limited on behalf of the developer, addressed Coun Popley's fears over potential traffic issues, saying the Highways Agency did not object to the application and "agree the scheme provides safe and suitable access to the site".
Comments and objections about the updated plans can be made on the council's planning portal until Monday, December 18.
