Time is running out to apply to become an on-call firefighter at Coalville Fire Station.

The deadline for applications to join the team at the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service station in the town is today (Weds).

On-call firefighters play an important role to the service's operational response, working alongside wholetime firefighters to respond to emergency calls, facing all kinds of challenges within the local community and helping to make safer people and safer places.

To be able to respond to emergencies within set attendance times, applicants must live and/or work within four minutes of Coalville Fire Station.

On-call firefighters are paid to spend some periods of their time available on-call to respond to emergency incidents. Many have full-time jobs, others are self-employed or stay-at-home parents.

Rick Taylor, Chief Fire and Rescue Officer, said: "On-call firefighters play a vital role at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and they help us provide the very best service to the local communities we serve.

"This is a real opportunity for members of our local communities looking for a rewarding job where they are also giving something back to their local community.

"We look forward to seeing and hearing from you and hope, this will be the first step to you joining our family."
