Leicestershire County Council is looking for views about plans to close a carers' short-break facility at Smith Crescent in Coalville.

Short breaks are a fundamental part of any support package as, not only do they give carers a break from caring, they allow people to meet friends, take part in activities and develop independence.

The Coalville closure is being proposed due to the outdated facilities available as well as a decreasing number of people using the location.

Jon Wilson, director of adults and communities at the council, said: "We remain hugely committed to investing in adult social care across the county.

"We want to provide the best care that we can and provide people with the right services to meet their needs, particularly around maintaining their independence.

"We are very keen to hear the views of local residents on how they would like their care delivered and their needs supported, and we would welcome views on what they would like to see developed in Coalville.

"We have 17 people who currently use Smith Crescent as a short breaks facility and we will be working closely with them and their families to gain their views and support them to access similar services elsewhere in the county."
