Coalville fire crew called out to Mini car blaze

Coalville fire crew was called out to a car fire on the M1 this afternoon (Thursday).

The incident happened on the southbound carriageway, between the Coalville junction - 22 - and 21A.

The Coalville firefighters were joined by another crew from Southern Station in Leicester.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service posted details on its website and said: "Numerous calls received in Fire Control to a Mini involved in fire on the hard shoulder.

"Two appliances in attendance."

Coalville Fire Station later posted a photo of the incident, showing the full extent of the damage caused to the car in the blaze.

The mini was completely burnt out as two lanes of the motorway were closed while the fire was dealt with.

A tweet from Coalville Fire Station reads: "We attended a car fire on the M1 southbound 22 to 21A with

@LFRSSouthern.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

"The driver did the correct thing and pulled over quickly and safely to the hard shoulder."
