Council Says It Has Collected Over 100 Tonnes Of Cardboard in Two Weeks Since Recycling Returned

By Graham Hill 7th Jul 2020

North West Leicestershire District Council says it has gathered over 100 tonnes of cardboard since collections were re-introduced last month.

And there is still more to be done as residents in the area dispose of waste built up during almost four months of lockdown.

Cardboard collections were suspended when Coronavirus measure were put in place in March.

But there are still some households whose cardboard has yet to be picked up although the four-week cycle of collections will end soon.

The Council posted online: "Last week was another busy week for our cardboard collection crews!

"We've collected a whopping 107 TONNES of cardboard over the past two weeks versus 34.5 tonnes in the same two weeks last year... and this is from only half of the households in the district!

"A BIG thank you again to everyone who has stored their cardboard until now so we can recycle it. Your patience and recycling efforts are greatly appreciated."
