Council Grants Paw-mission For Increased Numbers At Coalville Doggy Daycare

A newly-approved doggy daycare in Coalville has now been given the green light to look after up to 40 canines at any one time.

In February, Adele Moore's planning application submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council to construct a building and fencing for the business at Broom Leys Farm, Broom Leys Road, was approved.

A condition of the planning permission restricted the maximum number of dogs at any one time to eight, in line with the number cited in a document accompanying the application.

This week, the local authority has approved an application by Ms Moore to vary this condition, increasing the permitted number of dogs five-fold to 40.

A council report said the main determining issues for the variation hung on residential amenity, highway safety and parking.

Potential noise - barking - was raised by both the council and two residents objecting to the variation.

The agent for Ms Moore addressed these concerns stating, among others, that the business would not accept habitual barkers, dogs would be kept in groups of eight managed by a staff member with dog handling training, dogs would not be left unsupervised, and that an outdoor area would only be used for toileting.

The agent also said there would be a maximum of five staff on site at any one time and that dog drop-offs would be staggered - with no more than four at any one time.

The business, with opening hours from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, will have 13 off-street parking spaces.

A council report said: "The principle of the application has already been established and has been considered to be acceptable.

"Subject to the imposition of conditions, the proposal is not considered to have any significant detrimental residential amenity, highway safety or parking impacts.

"There are no other relevant material planning considerations that indicate permission should not be granted."
