Coalville's Feed The Need charity has criticised empty-handed shoppers who have come to them asking for food during the Coronavirus Crisis.

The Hugglescote-based charity was set up to help people who had fallen on hard times with food and supplies.

But now the organisation says it is getting requests from people complaining their local supermarket has run out of the items they want.

It prompted Feed The Need to run a strong response on their Facebook page on Thursday.

The post read: "This may sound harsh, but needs to be said as there are noticeable requests being made, not just to ourselves, but other similar groups.

"We are here for people financially struggling or who have had to isolate and have no one else to support them.

"There are a number of people who, because they can't get what they want from supermarkets, seem to think our groups have an endless supply of what is not available in the shops.

"I personally have battled the shops to try to find missing items but our resources and funds aren't going to go on forever.

"So PLEASE think before you send us a message, if you can maybe be a bit more resourceful or try a little harder so that we can help the ones that really need our help."
