The Heather Scarecrow Festival has joined the growing list of summer events to fall victim to the Coronavirus crisis.

And even though the event takes place in the last week of July and into early August, the organisers feel that some of the current measures introduced this month to fight the disease could still be in place.

The Festival attracts thousands of people each year to see the home made scarecrows dotted around the village.

But a statement posted on the event's Facebook page on Tuesday evening said: "It is with enormous sadness that we have to announce that Heather Scarecrow Festival 2020 is cancelled.

"Following the latest Government advice it would appear that social distancing is likely to be in place into the summer months and possibly beyond.

"We would like to thank everyone who has entered so far, and all of the individuals and companies who intended to advertise and sponsor our event. We will be in touch with you all shortly and hope you will consider supporting us in 2021.

"The current situation is completely unprecedented and we hope that all of our Facebook friends and followers are well, staying home and staying safe."
