The deadline for residents to give their views on the future of the former Hermitage Leisure Centre and Recreation ground has been extended into next month.

North West Leicestershire District Council has been inviting people to give feedback on the issue for a month.

Council's online consultation on the future of Hermitage Recreation Ground is now live

It was meant to close tomorrow (Friday) but will now be open until August 15.

The issue was meant to have been discussed at last month's Community Scrutiny Committee - with a view to taking it to next Tuesday's Cabinet meeting.

But councillors voted to defer it to a future date after being critical of the council's report into the site.

Now, the public have more time to air their views but the council has been left with added running costs.

The building has been sealed off until a decision can be reached about its future

There have been calls for the area to be developed into retired people's bungalows.

But it has also been suggested that the former leisure centre is re-opened for the community with a cafe included along with other sporting activities.

The council believes that is not workable as it would cost £2million to redevelop the building.

North West Leicestershire District Council said: "If you haven't shared your feedback on the future of the Hermitage Recreation Ground and former leisure centre, there's no rush.

"We've now extended the deadline until Monday, August 15, so you have more time to think about what you'd like the site to be used for."
