Coalville's Cinema in the Park has been declared a success by North West Leicestershire District Council after attracting thousands of movie fans.

More than 4,100 people attended the 12-day event in Coalville Park.

The park played host to 36 films across two weeks, with blockbusters including The Batman and Morbius, family favourites Moana and Encanto, and musicals Grease and Mamma Mia which had fans dancing and singing.

Building on the success of Cinema in the Park in 2021, the council - working with the Big Events Co (Leicester) - hosted the jam-packed schedule offering tickets for as little as £3 per person, and under-twos free.

Launched on August 12 with three screenings per day, the event culminated on 23 August with the much anticipated, and sell-out, showing of Baz Lurhmann's Elvis.

NWLDC subsidised £26,000 of the event costs using the Coalville Special Expenses fund - and secured local sponsorship from district businesses The Agency, Conkers, Everyone Active at Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre, International Football Academy and SMB College Group.

Councillor Tony Gillard, Portfolio Holder for Business and Regeneration at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "The atmosphere in Coalville Park throughout the screenings was brilliant, we welcomed movie fans of all ages, and even when rain was threatened people still flocked to the big screen.

"Coalville is a vibrant, family-friendly town and we were really pleased that Cinema in the Park attracted so many people.

"Thank you to the Big Events Co (Leicester) and our sponsors for helping to bring another successful outdoor cinema experience to the town, we look forward to working on next year's programme."
