Coalville: Whitwick man appears at Old Bailey facing charges of terrorism

A Coalville man has appeared in court accused of plotting a terror attack on major communications infrastructures.

Oliver Lewin appeared at the Old Bailey today (Wednesday) charged with preparing terrorist acts, reports the BBC website.

Lewin is alleged to have carried out reconnaissance of potential targets, purchased equipment and tools, dug hideouts, and looked to recruit others.

The plot would have targeted transmitter masts in the Midlands.

The court heard it was planned to take place between July 24 and August 25.

Mr Lewin, 37, of Ferrers Road in Whitwick, appeared by video link from Winchester Prison for a short preliminary hearing.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Birmingham Crown Court in January 2022, with a provisional trial set for August.

Coalville Nub News reported in August that a West Midlands-led investigation saw officers raid a home in Ferrers Road and arrested Lewin Man arrested on suspicion of terrorist offences after morning police raid.

Lewin then appeared before Westminster Magistrates earlier this month Whitwick man appears in court accused of plotting to topple the government.
