Man arrested in Coalville on suspicion of terrorism offences after morning police raid

A 37-year-old man was arrested in Coalville this morning (Wednesday) on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The raid on an address, believed to be in Whitwick, was carried out by West Midlands Police with the assistance of Leicestershire Police and Counter Terrorism officers from the East Midlands.

Some of the officers are thought to have been armed.

West Midlands Police says the information was based on intelligence and there was no threat to the public in the area.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police told Coalville Nub News: "Detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands CTU with the assistance of Leicestershire Police and Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands arrested a 37-year-old man in Coalville, Leicestershire today (25 August) on suspicion of terrorism offences.

"The man was arrested under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 and he is in custody at a police station in the West Midlands.

"The arrest was intelligence-led and there is no threat to the public."

The targeted address is thought to have been in Ferrers Road but neither Leicestershire nor West Midlands Police could confirm this.
