A plan to set up a 'pod' to allow people to sell their cars at a Coalville supermarket has been given the green light by North West Leicestershire District Council.

The facility will be set up in the car park at the Morrison's store on Whitwick Road.

A council officers's report says the application proposed the siting of the 'We Buy Any Car' pod to create an office for the purchase of motor cars and vans.

As a result, a total of 12 car park spaces would be lost at the supermarket - with two needed for the pod to be set up.

The pod would be located to the western side boundary of the existing Morrison's car park.

The application was made in March under the name of WM Morrison.

It would measure 4.8 x 3.2 metres in footprint, and would feature a flat roof of approximately 2.8 metres in height.

It has been made clear that no car sales will take place at the site and that the proposed pod would be for the purchase of cars only.

The council report says that there will be no unacceptable impacts on Coalville Town Centre or its primary shopping area.

Opening hours for the pod are expected to be In line with Morrison's food store's opening hours, 6am-11pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm Sundays and Bank Holidays
