A Coalville supermarket has applied for planning permission to set up a vehicle valuation 'pod' in its car park.

Morrison's wants a WeBuyAnyCar facility to run as part of its site on Whitwick Road.

An application has been made to North West Leicestershire District Council by Peacock + Smith, who are acting on behalf of the store.

Plans showing the planned addition show it would be alongside the supermarket's fuel station.

In all, 12 car parking spaces would be lost.

A letter to the council accompanying the application says: "The application site does not adjoin any existing buildings.

"The nearest visible buildings are the Morrisons Foodstore and Morrisons Petrol Filling Station to the north of the site.

"Our client seeks planning permission for the placement of a building to be used as a WeBuyAnyCar pod, and associated advertisements.

"The application site is located to the south-western boundary of the car park and consists of two car parking spaces.

"The operation would have use of 10 additional car parking spaces in which to store vehicles purchased from customers.

"The proposal would result in a reduction of total parking spaces from 654 to 642.

"The pod is 4.8m long, 3.2m wide and 2.8m high. It is single storey in nature with no requirement for storage or accommodation at first floor level.

"The application seeks to extend facilities available within the constraints of the existing Morrisons food store, broadening facilities available to the local community.

"It is considered that the principle of the development is acceptable given the site's established commercial setting, both in terms of its position within the Morrison food store car park, and the wider commercial/ industrial setting.

"Given this, and the small-scale nature of the pod, the proposal would not have any adverse effect on the surrounding uses."
