The Hermitage FM cafe last week hosted its monthly music night as part of the 'You've got a friend' (YGAF) campaign to raise awareness for mental health in the local community.

Duncan Keith, a blues singer from Burton, said he has been part of YGAF since it started in 2017 as a group of local artists wanting to bring live music to Coalville and promote support for people suffering with their mental health.

He said: 'These music nights have become a safe space for people to come and meet others.

"Some people have made lasting friendships just from being here which is great for the community."

Local band Sence Valley perform at the Cafe

Karen Watts, a spokesperson for the cafe, said: "We like to make it as accessible as possible for everyone here, we want everyone to feel welcome and people find that it's an affordable evening out especially as they get a free drink and a slice of cake.'

Local band Sence Valley created an equally welcoming atmosphere, even starting a crowd sing-along with their beautiful country ballads.

The music nights will continue once a month at the Hermitage FM cafe, with a special suicide prevention awareness night to be held in September.
