Six Coalville groups are among 70 across Leicestershire to be awarded Queen's Platinum Jubilee awards for their outstanding efforts to improve their local communities.

Hospice Hope, Ravenstone Parish Council, Confident Communities, Coalville, Charley Heritage Group, Thringstone Pantomime and Drama Society and Hermitage FM are on the list which was published on Friday.

The winners – each representing a year of Her Majesty The Queen's reign – were announced by Mike Kapur, the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire.

Mr Kapur said: "I would like to congratulate all the award winners and nominees.

"In recent times, we have experienced unprecedented and extraordinarily difficult times and yet throughout, it has been wonderful to see schools, businesses, volunteer and community groups across the city and county have remained unwavering in their commitment to making a big difference in their local communities.

"I'm delighted to shine a spotlight on the outstanding work that takes place and would like to thank everyone who took the time to make a nomination."

Each award winner will be presented with their award by either the Lord-Lieutenant or one of his Deputy Lieutenants later in the year.

Hermitage FM posted about the award on social media and said: "We were very humbled to discover that we have been nominated for and subsequently received a Platinum Jubilee Community and Business Award from the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire."

Thringstone Pantomime and Drama Society said: "Feeling proud! Thringstone Pantomime and Drama Society have been awarded the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Award for the charity work we do in the Community.

"So proud that we have been performing and supporting local charities since 1975."
