A Whitwick man has been given the go-ahead to turn his garage into a barbers shop.

In a retrospective application, North West Leicestershire District Council was told in an officer's report that the work had been completed in April.

But now the green light has officially been given for the change of use at 163, Hall Lane.

The report says: "It is proposed for the barber shop to be operated by one full time member of staff and the proposed hours of operation are:

•Monday to Friday 10:00 - 20:00

  • Saturday 08:00 - 14:00."

The applicant, Mr Ian Hicklin, said the shop would be used by his son.

The report added: "Given the small scale of the proposed use (5.5sqm with one customer at a time and one member of staff) it is considered that it has not detrimentally impacted upon the residential character of the area.

"Concerns were raised during the course of the application in regard to customers overlooking the neighbouring property (particularly the window to the lounge) upon arrival.

"Given the proposal has resulted in no physical alterations to the property and that the windows in question on the neighbouring property are to its front elevation, it is considered that any views would not be materially different to those established from the public highway on Hall Lane or from any comings and goings already established to the application site.

"On this basis no adverse overlooking impacts have arisen."
