Coalville Park and Broomleys Cemetery have been awarded the coveted Green Flag Award - officially recognising them as two of the country's best green spaces.

North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) is celebrating the news that the two venues have retained the accreditation - the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

The council says this is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that care for the green space, so that visitors and residents alike can enjoy it.

The Green Flag examiner particularly commented on the good management of trees and litter, with the grounds being well-presented.

It was noted that the staff take pride in their work as they go above and beyond the call of duty.

A video has been created by NWLDC about the award - you can see this below.

Paul Sanders, Head of Community Services at NWLDC, said: "Receiving the Green Flag Award is a proud moment for our community.

"It highlights the commitment and hard work of our team in maintaining Broomleys Cemetery and Coalville Park to the highest standards.

"We are dedicated to providing exceptional green spaces for our residents and visitors to enjoy, and this recognition reinforces our efforts to create beautiful, sustainable, and welcoming environments for everyone."

Paul Todd MBE, Keep Britain Tidy's Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, said: "I would like to congratulate everyone involved at NWLDC on achieving a Green Flag Award.

"We know that staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award, everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.

"It is important that our free to use spaces are maintained to the Green Flag Award standard, making them accessible for all members of the community while ensuring the environment is protected."
