A Coalville optician has started a new initiative to support a local community foodbank.

Specsavers, in the Belvoir Shopping Centre, has pledged to donate one item of non-perishable food to Feed the Need for every customer feedback survey they receive.

The team has donated 74 items so far, including tinned goods and pasta, to the foodbank that provides emergency food parcels to people in the area.

Shailan Ruparelia, store director at Specsavers Coalville, said: "We always welcome customer feedback to help us improve our services, and we're delighted to be able to support our foodbank at the same time.

"The ongoing cost-of-living crisis has been challenging for lots of people, and we want to do our bit to help."

One of the team, Tammy Robottom, collected the shopping which was delivered to volunteers at the foodbank to be distributed throughout the community.

Shailan added: "We've been blown away by the support we've had so far and we'd like to say thank you to everyone who has completed a feedback survey.

"There's still a chance to get involved and we'll be continuing with donations in the coming months."

Run by a team of volunteers, Feed the Need was established in 2019 and runs weekly sessions to help those in the local area who have fallen on hard times.
