Coalville Amateur Operatic Society will be staging a production that has been delayed for the past two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The society is one of the oldest running musical theatre groups in the area and was delighted to celebrate its centenary year with the local community in 2019 with the production of Hello Dolly!

Following this was the toe tapping and hilarious musical comedy Crazy for You in 2020.

But then the coronavirus crisis struck - and only now has the Operatic Society being able to line up a return to the stage with Boogie Nights.

Jake Pervin, of the Coalville group, said: "Since March 2020 CAOS has been keeping in reserve their next musical, Boogie Nights!

"The cast have been excited to stage this for the past two years when Covid meant that all theatres had to close.

"We're thrilled to be getting back out there on the stage sharing this fantastic 70s musical with our audience.

"As well as featuring classics such as 'Enough is Enough', 'I will survive', 'Sorry seems to be the hardest word' and 'Disco Inferno' the company have also ended up on roller skates for the first time and the script is full of laughs.

"Throughout lockdown the company kept busy with virtual quizzes, a virtual concert and karaoke nights as well as events helping local charities.

"We were very proud of our reverse advent calendar which saw us donate many essential items to the local food bank in Coalville.

"Iveshead School, where we perform, has also seen huge refurbishment during this time to the theatre and the building it is situated in and we can't wait for audiences to see the transformation.

"We are now ready to return to the stage and hope our audience can return with us. It has been a tough couple of years, many people have had it hard during this pandemic.

"We are hoping that with our production of Boogie Nights we can get the local community out enjoying theatre and live music again, put a smile on your face and maybe even have you singing or dancing to a line or two.

"This show is sure to leave you with that 'feelgood' feeling and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible."

Boogie Nights is running from Tuesday, February 22-Saturday 26 at Iveshead School Shepshed.
