Coalville MP Andrew Bridgen has given his support to Derby County in their battle to find a new owner - and stave off the possibility of going out of business.

The Pride Park club have already been deducted 21 points this season because of financial irregularities and going into administration.

But before a new owner can take over, Derby must settle compensation claims from Middlesbrough and Wycombe Wanderers who claim they suffered as a result of the Rams' spending and the lack of a points deduction last season and in 2019.

Now Derby are facing liquidation if a buyer does not pump money into the club - and the English Football League wants proof the club has enough funds to see them through this season.

Mr Bridgen tweeted today (Sunday) that he will take it up with the Minister for Sport, Nadine Dorries, and the EFL.

The MP for North West Leicestershire said: "I have many constituents who are Derby County fans and the situation they find themselves with the EFL is of great concern to myself and my MP colleagues.

"I have written to the Minister and the EFL seeking a meeting to discuss how to overcome the obstacles to a swift takeover."

Derby are now having to sell key players to help raise funds to stay afloat.
