Coalville-based Rocket Railways Reclaimed is calling on enthusiasts of all ages to join them in marking Global Recycling Day, with a special giveaway event.
On Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19, customers will be granted privileged access to a storeroom full of accessories and spare parts — an Aladdin's Cave for any railway modeller!
Visitors are invited to choose from a large collection of scale buildings and accessories, which they may take home free of charge.
There will also be a stock of nearly new pots of Humbrol paints, which are ideal for all sorts of modelling projects.
The aim of this one-off event is to find new homes for items which might otherwise end up in the rubbish tip.
Rocket Railways Reclaimed believes that creativity is the key to sustainability, and encourages modelling enthusiasts to find original solutions to breath a new lease of life into worn-out models.
For one weekend only, customers may also purchase a half-price Rocket Railways Reclaimed 'Mystery Box' for only £5.
Each box contains a random assortment of well-used rolling stock and accessories, providing modellers with the raw materials to create new scenic features for their layout.
All that is needed is a little skill and imagination.
Rocket Railways Reclaimed was established in December 2021 with the aim of promoting greater sustainability in the hobby.
Parent company, Rocket Railways is a leading supplier of high quality used models, and was recently named 'Model Railway Shop of the Year' in the 2021 Central England Prestige Awards.
The family-run company abides by an ethos of accessibility and fun, appealing to newcomers and veteran enthusiasts
alike. This unique event will take place at the Rocket Railways shop, located in the Marlene Reid Centre, Coalville (LE67 3PH), between 9am to 4pm on Friday, and Saturday 9.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday. Nearby parking is available at the Market Hall Car Park (LE67 3XA), with the first two hours free of charge. Managing Director, Jason Thickpenny says: "Each week we buy a large amount of stock, from individual items to large collections. "Though most of the locomotives and rolling stock have plenty of miles left in them, some of the accessories and buildings look tired and in need of some TLC. "We started Rocket Railways Reclaimed to minimise the amount of waste that we create, saving as much as we can from landfill. "Reuse is the best form of recycling, and we hope that modellers everywhere will step up to the challenge, finding new purposes for old models."
