Residents in Coalville and North West Leicestershire are being urged to pay their council tax by direct debit to help speed up the payment of a £150 rebate to homes in bands A to D for help towards energy bills.
The call comes after the Government announced the council tax rebate scheme as part of measures to support families with rising global energy costs.
The one-off payment, made on behalf of central government, will be paid by local authorities directly to eligible households.
Households who pay council tax by direct debit will see the cash go directly into their bank accounts.
Those who do not pay by direct debit will be contacted by the council and invited to make a claim.
There will also be a discretionary rebate scheme for vulnerable residents or those who do not pay council tax who live in properties in Council Tax bands E to H.
There are around 38,324 properties in council tax bands A to D in North West Leicestershire.

Councillor Roger Bayliss, Portfolio Holder for Revenues and Benefits at North West Leicestershire District Council said: "With the cost of living increasing we know many residents are struggling with their finances, so we want to make sure residents get this vital help with their bills as soon as possible.
"Paying council tax by direct debit will mean eligible households will receive the money straight into their bank account, so if you haven't already, I would urge you to sign up for direct debit payments."
