Coalville Heritage Society stages talk comparing a 100-year gap between the town's miners

By Graham Hill 2nd Nov 2021

The popular Coalville Heritage Society winter meeting programme is to restart this month - with a talk comparing a 1970s miner with one from 1875.

On November 10, the talk will feature Bryan Hallam and Stuart Warburton with a presentation called 'Coalville Miners 1875 and 1975'.

Bryan will show the audience what it was like to be a miner in the town in the 1970s and Stuart will play the role of a miner from the 1870s and compare the life of a Coalville miner separated by 100 years.

The talk will be the first since the programme of winter talks was suspended because of Covid-19.

Steve Duckworth the Society Chairman is overjoyed that the talks are to resume and said: "It is great

to be able to invite people back to hear talks and stories about Coalville and the surrounding area.

"Over the next few months we have invited speakers to talk about a variety of subjects from the local Co-op to cinema in Coalville and we look forward to seeing you again."

The programme starts on November 10 with talks going through to April 2022 on the following

topics:

  • November 10, Coalville Miners, 1975 & 1875 – Bryan Hallam and Stuart Warburton.
  • December 8, Christmas Party and Members Contribution Night. (Free buffet courtesy of the CHS)
