Coalville's Feed the Need foodbank is looking for its own premises as the group's organisers believe their services will be needed for some time to come.

Feed The Need has been supplying hungry families and vulnerable people in the Coalville area from its base in Hugglescote.

But group feels its help will be in demand even more as the impact of Coronavirus leads to job losses and reduced income.

"The community in Coalville has been so kind to us," said Fliss Middleton, the founder of Feed the Need Coalville.

"We've been given a room in a community centre to hold a weekly food bank, storage in a garage and lots of donated food but we need to expand to open more often and help more people"

The group is looking for somewhere where food can be stored permanently and with space available to hold food bank sessions in the evenings and weekends if necessary.

Many of the people Feed The Need helps need supplies at short notice, such as a man recently discharged from hospital after a heart attack, who had little in his house, and was too weak to cook.

He also urgently needed toilet rolls and mouthwash.

Fliss said the group could probably get a grant or raise some money if there was somewhere that needed repairs as long as it could be made safe and watertight.

"We would consider somewhere a bit different," she said.

"I mean, someone first had the idea of putting a library on a bus so we could use our imagination a bit and see the potential of somewhere that isn't immediately obvious"
