Last week's tri-service open day at Coalville Fire Station attracted a huge 3,000 crowd and raised £2,000 for two charities – Air Ambulance and The Fire Fighters Charity.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service worked with partners in Leicestershire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) and North West Leicestershire District Council to plan the event, which was held at Coalville Fire Station.

The station became an 'Emergency Services Hub' when Leicestershire Police joined in March 2018, with EMAS joining in August 2020.

As well as hot oil, rope rescue and house fire demonstrations from the fire service, all three blue light services had emergency vehicles, equipment and colleagues in attendance to educate and inform the public.

There were also stands from other agencies, such as Coalville Rotary Club, Everyone Active, Newfoundland Therapy Dogs and 1188 Coalville Squadron Air Corps, and plenty of family fun such as face painting and the mini fire engine.

As a further result of the event, the fire service managed to collect 60 addresses for home safety checks to further improve engagement with communities and help towards 'Safer People, Safer Places'.
