Coalville councillor joins condemnation of Bridgen decision - and challenges Labour election candidate

Coalville Liberal Democrat councillor Michael Wyatt has joined in the condemnation of MP Andrew Bridgen's decision to quit the Reclaim Party.

His comments come after Labour's North West Leicestershire Constituency candidate, Amanda Hack, slammed Mr Bridgen last week.

But Cllr Wyatt has also criticised Ms Hack's claim to represent the district's voters, as she is currently a councillor based in an area outside of the district.

Former Conservative MP Mr Bridgen announced last month that he would now be an independent candidate at the next General Election after resigning from Laurence Fox's Reclaim Party.

Cllr Wyatt said:"The quicker we have a general election the better. 

"We currently have a completely deluded and out-of-touch MP who seems to jump from one sinking ship to another.

"If Andrew Bridgen seriously thinks people are going to vote for someone they cannot trust he's going to be very disappointed come the election."

But he also says Cllr Hack faces a battle to win the seat later this year - and has set her a challenge.

Cllr Wyatt added: "Labour's PPC needs to also realise that someone representing Braunstone in Leicester, with no connection except turning up for photo opportunities, will not wash with the electorate either. 

"People want an MP who will fight to improve basic services which are currently at breaking point.

"One policy Labour is pushing is to build a million new homes, which means North West Leicestershire will have to treble, if not quadruple, the amount of houses allocated. 

"I openly challenge Labour's PPC to disown or tell us where these houses are going to be built.

"Because again, she's absolutely no connection so will not understand the grave concern people have about Labour's destructive housing policy on local communities."
