Ex-Coalville county councillor Terri Eynon has answered some of the questions she has been receiving about the new road layout on Ashby Road.
Leicestershire County Council has removed the unpopular 'chicanes'.
But there have been some comments about the work being carried out.
Cllr Eynon has addressed them on her Facebook page before the result of Thursday's local election which saw her lose her Coalville North seat.
She posted: "Thank you to everyone who made comments on a previous post regarding the Ashby Road chicanes.
"I have been in discussion with County Highways and they have the following answers to all your questions.
"1. The tarmac where the chicanes have been removed is darker than the surrounding road. The old TRO lines curve around these dark patches giving the impression that there is an obstruction in the road. When are these lines going to be removed?
ANSWERThe area will be resurfaced on 9th and 16th May. This will remove the old lining and temporary surfacing. New road markings will be laid where necessary to reflect the new road layout and parking areas.
- The Snibston entrance sticks out a long way into the road. Why was this thought necessary?
The kerb line hasn't been changed, but with the shrubs removed it does look very different.
- There is a bump in the road outside the Tyre & Exhaust business that drivers are concerned about.
This is a Severn Trent reinstatement. The intention is to address this as part of the resurfacing outside ASDA.
- Please can I have some information on how we intend to monitor speeds after the removal of the chicanes?
Generally, surveys aren't done until a year after completion of the construction to allow traffic patterns to settle down. However, officers have sought advice on when and which surveys need to be undertaken to give us the fullest picture possible regarding the volume, type and speed of vehicles using Ashby Road following these changes.
[If I am still your County Councillor after Thursday's vote, I will let you know when they have a plan developed.]- What are the bell-shaped structures at the Snibston entrance supposed to be? If they are meant to be aesthetically pleasing I am afraid public are not impressed with the way they have been stuck in tarmac like an afterthought.
ANSWER
These are Bell Bollards, used across the County to protect the footway from vehicles driving on there. They are particularly robust so less likely to be damaged which could leave the area exposed to inappropriate parking before replacements are installed.
