A new initiative to help set up projects to inspire people to get active is on offer in North West Leicestershire.

North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) is looking for groups to join a community start-up programme to boost health and fitness across the district.

Partnership opportunities are available for up to six groups, and the scheme is designed to help them get-off the ground and bring new ideas to life in local communities.

Successful projects will receive support to get set up and ensure sessions are sustainable including help towards start-up costs to the value of £500.

The type of groups the council is keen hear from, but are not limited to, include:

  • Sports clubs
  • Community centres
  • Parish councils
  • Not for profit organisations.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: "We're looking to set up partnerships with community groups to make projects and clubs sustainable in the long term for people who have low activity levels or struggle to access opportunities to be active.

"There's lots of groups out there that add value to our communities, and we want to help bring their ideas to life, whilst supporting the health and wellbeing of residents in North West Leicestershire.

"If you're part of a community group or organisation with an interest in boosting health and fitness in your community, then register your interest to help us become a more active district."

Community groups interested in getting involved can fill out the online expression of interest form HERE.

The deadline for applications is Monday, October 31.
