Coalville CAN is playing host to a 'model' exhibitor at its Memorial Square base this week.

Modellers and Their Models is a display which recreates movies scenes in miniature.

Finely crafted models depict the likes of Saving Private Ryan and Ice Cold in Alex.

It runs until this Saturday (June 15) and one of the organisers, Garry Johnson, explained what the story behind the exhibition.

He told Coalville Nub News: "I've been modelmaking since I was about nine or 10 years old - and the models have come on massively, in the way that they're made the way that you put them together, the materials that you use.

"So it's all just about trying to get them together in one place. It's about getting the depth on to the uniforms, it's very detailed and intricate.

"If you look at normal clothing, if you look at the depth on a shirt, for example, it's getting the shading in there, it's getting the shading in the face if someone's got stubble, or if they've been in the mud sort of thing. Doing all of that.

"The vehicles, if they've been through mud, you're going to try and replicate the mud. It's never pristine."

Garry added he may have been young when he started modelling, but it is something that can help in adult life too.

He added: "It's just a way of relaxing, shutting out modern day life for a little while. My first model was Airfix Red Arrow."

Garry said the opportunity to exhibit at Coalville CAN could lead to modelling classes being set up.

He said: "They have all kinds of exhibitions here, but I was asked probably about three or four weeks ago, if I'd bring some of my models over to provide for an exhibition for modelmaking.

"But there is the potential for setting up a Modelmaking. Club. If that happens, Jonathan, one of the other guys who does all the modelmaking he's going to be leading that and he's been part of this exhibition as well."
