Bin collections across North West Leicestershire are changing from November as part of work to reduce emissions and save money.
Nearly half of households across the district will see their collection day or bin schedule change from November 1 as the council alters routes to include new developments and reduce its carbon footprint.
Updated waste and recycling calendars are being hand delivered to all 47,300 homes over the next month, with nearly 23,000 seeing a change to collections also receiving a letter.
North West Leicestershire District Council has not specified as yet which areas will be affected by the changes.
Running from November 2021 to November 2022, the new calendars also include arrangements for Christmas. There will be no change to food waste trial collections.
If homes have two recycling or two black bin collections in a row because of the changes, additional waste and recycling can be left next to the bin the following week.
If homes have two recycling or black bin collections in a row because of the changes, two extra bags of waste and extra recycling can be left next to the bins and recycling containers the following week.
The work forms part of the council's Zero Carbon plan, which has already seen the authority commit to running all bin lorries on waste food oils by 2024.
Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "With the district continuing to grow, and our push to provide the most cost-effective and energy efficient services possible, we have made some changes to our bin collections.
"Some routes have changed to allow crews time to visit new developments in the area on the same day, while others have allowed us to reduce the amount of fuel we use by creating more energy-efficient routes.
"We're planning for all our bin lorries to run on waste food oils by 2024, but in preparation for that and in the meantime it's important we reduce carbon wherever possible.'
"Officers are hand-delivering new waste calendars to every house in the district, and as 47 percent of them will be different from existing collections, it's important you check yours so you're ready for November."
