Car Crashes Into Garden Wall And Wrecks Telegraph Pole In Ibstock

A car crashed into a garden wall in Ibstock and wrecked a telegraph pole in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

The incident happened in Melbourne Road at around 3.30am.

But when police arrived at the scene, the driver was not there.

The damage caused meant that the road had to be closed to traffic.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: "Shortly after 3.30am today (Wednesday 13 January) we received a report that a car had collided with a garden wall and telegraph pole in Melbourne Road, Ibstock.

"Police attended, but the occupant, or occupants, of the car had left the scene.

"Due to the damage caused the telegraph pole, a decision was made to close the road. Enquiries are ongoing at this time."

An earlier social media post from Leicestershire Police said: "Traffic update at 05:15. Following a road traffic incident, Melbourne Rd in Ibstock is closed between the Valley Rd & Gladstone St junctions and Central Ave.

"This will be closed for the next couple of hours, while repair work is carried out. Updates will follow."
