Buddies Bar in Coalville says it has not been offered 'relocation or compensation' after being told to leave its current site at the entrance to the Belvoir Shopping Centre.

The bar will be forced to close down next weekend to make way for a North West Leicestershire District Council customer services centre - and said in an online post today (Sunday) that it has nowhere to go.

Last month, the shopping centre owners Gylo told Coalville Nub News that it would attempt to relocate the bar.

Coalville bar 'chucked out' to make way for new council offices.

But now, Buddies owners say this has not happened - and, even if they could find new premises, it would take four months to get up and running again.

The district council also said it would be open to talks, but a post on the Buddies Facebook page says this weekend will see its last day of trading.

The post reads: "Quick update on Buddies.

"Despite Gylo claiming to be in talks with Buddies, we have been offered nothing in compensation.

"We have not been offered re location.

"Our final night is still November 20.

"Premises to match what we had at Buddies is hard to find in Coalville.

"And, even if we found something with all the various licences we would need, it would be four months before we can trade again."

A petition was set up in support of the barwhich asked the local authorities to reverse their decision.

So far, that has attracted almost 1,200 signatures.

Buddles' message adds: "Coalville has shown and voiced their opinions of support and we are grateful to all of you.

"But the powers that be have not listened to public opinion."

Last month, a spokesperson for the Gylo Trust told Coalville Nub News: "We've been working with Buddies Bar since the end of last year and shown our support to help grow this new business through favourable financial measures.

"We are committed to helping them find a viable future and are in discussions about a potential relocation."

At the same time, North West Leicestershire District Council responded to the bar's initial online comments.

Andy Barton, Strategic Director at the council, said last month: "As part of our accommodation plans, we're looking to move our customer services team to the heart of Coalville, closer to our customers.

"We've been working with the Belvoir Shopping Centre to find the most suitable place to do this.

"We aren't part of discussions between the shopping centre owners and their tenants, including Buddies Bar, but will offer support to businesses where we can.

"We don't like to see businesses leave the area, so if the owners of the bar would like our help with licensing or finding alternative accommodation, our door is open."
