Parents and carers across Leicestershire are being encouraged to complete applications for their child's secondary school place for entry in Autumn 2023.

Those with children transferring from primary to secondary school will have received a letter explaining how to complete school place applications online by the application deadline of Monday 31 October 2022.

Leicestershire County Council is advising parents to apply online using the link provided in the letter, and to ensure that at least one of the schools applied for is the child's catchment school.

Councillor Deborah Taylor, cabinet member for children and families, said: "Choosing which schools to apply for is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we're committed to working with parents and carers to support them as they make this choice.

"I'd advise all parents and carers to maximise their opportunities of securing a school place by applying for three schools in order of preference, of which at least one of your preferences should be your catchment school(s).

"There is no automatic entry for any school, so it is very important for applications to be submitted before the closing date to avoid disappointment."

The closing date to apply for secondary school places is Monday 31 October 2022 and the national offer date is 1 March (or the next working day). Any parents who have not received a letter can still apply by using our online transfer form and indicating they are applying for a Year 7 place in 2023.

Any applications received after the deadlines will only be processed once all on-time applications have been processed. 

All applicants should ensure they have received confirmation when submitting the form. If individuals do not receive a receipt, it means the application has not been received and a new application will need to be submitted.

The council is advising parents and carers who are looking at secondary school places to visit school open days and evenings to understand each school's criteria for entry, and also explore travel options for children getting to and from school.
