A fundraiser has been set up following a burglary at the Coalville Adult School earlier this month.

The raid saw thieves steal electrical equipment and props from a play that was being staged at the venue by the Coalville Drama Group - a production that went ahead as planned despite the incident.

Chocolates, cakes, even an Elvis wig were taken by the burglars who took the items from what is a community building based in Bridge Road.

Now, a gofundme page HERE has been set up called 'Help Secure our Beloved Adult School Hall' - aimed at improving the building's security.

The page says: "We've been so moved by your support and love and affection in light of our community home being rocked by burglary.

"Many of you have asked how you might be able to support us...your well wishes have kept us upbeat and fuelled our perseverance to continue.

"We will need to invest in some higher quality security features to safeguard our much loved building. If you are able, and would like to contribute to that security update we'd be so grateful."

June Brechin has set up the page and she said: "We need to improve our protections of the building and there are 14 trustees - I am one of them - we are all volunteers so the building is purely run for the community to use."

A social media post by the Adult School gave more details of what happened.

It reads: "We're sad to say that our beautiful Coalville Adult school hall was broken into last night (December 10) between 10pm and 9am.

"A number of items including electrical equipment has been stolen and now the clean up operation will begin

"If anyone has any information, please get in contact via Facebook messenger or at [email protected]."
