Aldi will be opening a new store in Ellistown later this month.

The new supermarket will be situated on Sence Valley Road - and is part of the wider mixed-use development by the Harworth Group in the South East Coalville area which is set for 2,700 homes, a public house restaurant, a children's day nursery, a new medical centre and primary school as well as new bus route.

A date has been set for the store's opening - Thursday, May 23 at 8am, and it will be run by Store Manager Emily Parker-Raoof, along with a team of 30 colleagues from the local community.

It will be opened by Olympic bronze medal-winning gymnast, Sam Oldham - who will be cutting the ribbon with Emily.

Sam will also give away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi's Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue.

Aldi says it is part of its investment in local communities across the UK.

Store Manager Emily said: "We can't wait to open the doors to the new store in Coalville.

"It's set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Sam Oldham join us will make it a morning to remember."

Gymnastics star Sam added: "I'm so excited to be opening Aldi's new store - it'll be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB."

The new Aldi store is also calling on local charities and food banks in Coalville to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.

Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week.
