Police appeal for witnesses after swan attacked by dog in Whitwick

Police are appealing for witnesses after a dog attacked a swan at Whitwick's Hermitage Fishing Lake and Recreation Ground.

The swan had to be euthanised following the incident on Tuesday, 19 May.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: "It has been reported that on the morning of Tuesday, 19 May at Hermitage Fishing Lake and Recreation Ground, a dog was witnessed attacking a swan which has since had to be put to sleep due to its injuries.

"We have already linked in with the RSPCA, who attended the location on the day, in order to obtain further details and contact has also been made with the RSPB regarding our investigation.

"If you were at this location at the time and witnessed the incident, please make contact with us to assist in identifying the dog owner."
