A community-spirited Coalville sandwich shop has invested in an extra fridge to provide a grab-and-go service for emergency and other key workers.

Bardon Sandwich, in Central Road, has maintained a delivery-only service for customers throughout lockdown.

But the popular business opened its doors again last Monday (18 May) - with the fridge in place to provide a speedy service for customers watching the clock.

Owner Julie Wesley told Coalville Nub News: "We have always made our sandwiches to order and before lockdown emergency workers often have to dash off quickly - occasionally without their food.

"So when we decided to reopen for walk-in customers we bought a new fridge and have stocked it with ready-made cobs and torpedoes as well as drinks.

"That way emergency service workers - or key workers who don't want to queue at supermarkets - can just grab something quickly, pay and be out the door."

Julie and her team have also regularly donated sandwiches to frontline staff at Hugglescote Surgery.

Bardon Sandwich is currently open from 8.30am to 1pm Monday to Saturday and is enjoying brisk trade.

Just one customer is allowed in the shop at a time and card payments are preferred.

The delivery service continues as normal during the same hours.
