Staff at the Spar supermarket in Coalville were threatened with knives during a late night robbery.

Leicestershire Police are appealing for information after what they describe as a 'frightening experience' yesterday evening (Saturday).

The raiders made off with alcohol, cigaretttes and cash in the incident which happened at the Broom Leys Road store.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said today (Sunday): "Officers were called at around 10.30pm last night (13 March) to a report of a robbery at the store in Broom Leys Road.

"It was reported three men had entered the premises and threatened the staff with knives.

"The suspects, all described as wearing dark clothing and face masks, left the store with a quantity of cigarettes, alcohol and cash before making off."

Detective Constable Berni Rowlson, the investigating officer, said: "This was a particularly frightening experience for the staff who thankfully were not left physically injured.

"As our investigation progresses, I would to appeal to anyone who has any information about the robbery to contact us. Did you see someone in the area acting suspiciously before the incident took place?

"Or maybe you saw the men leaving the area after and the direction they went?

"Any information you have could be of some benefit to our enquiries so please get in touch with us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 21*143049.
