Tai Chi for Arthritis
Marlene Reid Centre, Coalville
Health
Monday 2nd June

Hello. I'm Peter, & I teach tai chi, hosted by The Marlene Reid Centre in Coalville. In case you don't know about The Marlene Reid Centre, it's a charity that provides a wide range of services, - very reasonable bed sales, excellent used furniture, a social supermarket, yoga, children's events, a transport service & excellent very reasonable lunches. They also host many support services, a dance & drama school, & they do loads more than I even know. If you knew of them from some years ago, have another look. They go from strength to strength. I can't speak highly enough of them.
I've been teaching Tai Chi for Arthritis there for approaching 18 months, & I'm going to add a second weekly class from June 3. Information in detail is below.
Tai Chi for Arthritis was created by Dr Paul Lam, a Chinese-Australian family doctor who was crippled by arthritis as a teenager. It is Sun style tai chi, modified for people with joint & balance problems, which includes me. In my fifties I had to give up salsa, flamenco (guitar & dance), aikido & even tai chi because of joint, balance & neurological problems. Then I discovered Tai Chi for Arthritis in 2018, & in 2019 I qualified to teach it, becoming a Tai Chi for Health Institute Certified Instructor. https://www.taichiforhealthinstitute.org

Tai chi is slow & gentle, yet it increases strength, balance, & co-ordination. Tai chi promotes gracefulness & poise. Tai chi is also "meditation in movement", & promotes mental & general wellbeing.
My classes are based on Tai Chi for Arthritis, a type of tai chi created by Dr Paul Lam, a Chinese-Australian family doctor, & the founder of The Tai Chi for Health Institute. www.taichiforhealthinstitute.org
We also do "qi gong", sometimes known as Chinese yoga, which is done standing. Qi gong is soft & gentle, too, - & we do it to soothing Chinese music.
It's a welcoming, friendly group.
