A specially commissioned piece of artwork has been given the go-ahead to form part of a new housing development in Hugglescote.

Davidsons Homes applied to North West Leicestershire District Council to place the artwork as part of its Hastings Park estate on land to the North of Wainwright Road, a few miles outside Coalville.

The plan was given the green light today (Thursday) and will take pride of place within the development.

It shows a large log with woodland animals - while a drawing of the one to be used in Hugglescote suggests the words 'Hastings Park' will appear on it.

An officer's report from the district council says: "None of the dwellings to Plots 72-74 (inclusive) shall be occupied until such time as precise details of a scheme of public art to the proposed public open space adjacent to those plots - and including a timetable for its implementation - have been submitted to and agreed in writing by the Local Planning Authority.

"The development shall be carried out in accordance with the agreed details and timetable, or in accordance with any alternative details and timetable first submitted to and agreed in writing by the Local Planning Authority.

"Reason: To ensure the proposed public art is appropriate to its locality, and is provided at an appropriate time, and to comply with the adopted North West Leicestershire Local Plan."
