Amazon Coalville had to evacuate its premises yesterday evening (Friday).

A fire alarm went off at the Ellistown complex which meant a 'fire evacuation' took place.

The company says that employees had to stand outside for less than half an hour.

But traffic congestion in the area was made worse by the fact that a shift change was taking place around that time.

A number of people on social media were asking what caused the problems.

A spokesman for Amazon told Coalville Nub News: "What happened was that there was a fire alarm and an evacuation of the building at the time. We had a fire evacuation.

"It happened between 6.20-6.45 on Friday evening.

"There would have been a shift change at the time so that may have caused some congestion in the area.

"But there was no issue on the site which was evacuated for under half an hour before things returned to normal.

"We are not aware of the police being involved, but if they were passing they may have looked at the traffic congestion."
